During our most recent visit to Disney World, we tried our first
dinner show! The Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue (often shortened to HDDR) has been one of the longest running dinner
shows at Walt Disney World and is located at Fort Wilderness. If you have a car, you can drive to the
main building and then catch the internal bus, or you can take any park bus to Fort
Wilderness or even the boat from Magic Kingdom.
Place settings at table 72; salads are already on the table! |
If you're not on the dining plan, you will pre-pay for your meal at the time you book the reservation. They have three categories for seating, and we were in
category 2 on the main floor. We were assigned table 72 about three quarters
back in the room, but we had a great view of the stage.
This is how near we were to the stage |
The salad and cornbread
were on the table upon arriving. Our server was very interactive with the kids, and the chef even came to our table to discuss a food allergy one of my
children has. He made a suggestion for a different dessert and reminded us to
inform our server at time of ordering.
Unlimited soft drinks, coffee, tea, beer, wine and sangria are included
in the cost. We tried the white Sangria and it is very sweet because it is made
from peaches.
Dancers are part of the entertainment! |
The show started shortly thereafter, and it has us laughing
and enjoying the vaudeville themed entertainment all through the meal. There
are no Disney characters here, but the actors really do a great job of making the humor fun
for all ages and they even interact with the audience. The entertainment takes a break, so the
servers can clean off your table and get ready for the main course.
In drops
the buckets of fried chicken and BBQ spare ribs! The sides were corn off the
cob, baked beans, and, for dessert, Strawberry Shortcake. This is all served family
style, and there was plenty of food. The ribs were our favorite, and honestly, we
were too full to eat much of the dessert!
Two eight-year old boys, my mother and myself all agree this
was a very entertaining night, and my boys have asked to return again someday. We
left full and with smiles on our faces. We still talk about the funny
entertainers. I‘d suggest booking this
for a resort or down day outside of the parks or even on the day that you are arriving. Most nights there are three shows: 4pm, 6:15pm, and 8:30pm.
Since this location is a bit further out make sure
you allow plenty of time for travel. The tables are pre-assigned, so you don’t
need to arrive hours before hand to get a good table but do pick up your tickets from your resort concierge when you arrive at your Disney resort. Definitely add this to
your “must do” list for your next WDW vacation!
