For our 13th wedding anniversary, my husband and I decided to
go to Disney World without the kids.
Some might question this thinking, but we had an amazing time! We love taking a trip at least once a year
(thankful for Grammy who watches the kids) and usually it is to a beach
location and very relaxing (like a cruise or an all-inclusive resort). But this trip was relaxing too!
We usually don’t go places where kids are since we left
our kids at home! So you might think why
in the world would we go to Disney World where there are bound to be a TON of
kids? Other people’s kids don’t bother
us...and when they get up from the table at dinner? Might have bothered their parents (as we are
often THAT mom and dad), but did.not.bother.us.at.all
and those kids made us smile. You know
why? We love our kids. We love all kids
(we are teachers too), but sometimes it is nice to get away from those adorable
kids and have adult time.
We decided to stay at Coronado Springs Resort because it
has a convention center and is often thought of as having more of an adult feel to
it. We also decided to stay in the
business class building (extra fee) to be able to use the business lounge and
to be in the closest building to the main building. This is the only moderate resort on Disney
property that has a lounge! The Coconino Cove,
the lounge at Coronado Springs, had the perfect amount of breakfast for us, and
the sangria, beer and wine offerings, along with snacks offered in the evening,
were a nice way to have a few drinks before dinner.
The picture of the sunset is from Coronado
Springs Resort. There are some great hammocks to enjoy this view!
Another perk of
staying on property: take Disney transportation and enjoy a few drinks and
don’t have to drive! We park hopped (something we don’t normally do with our 8
and 5 year old)! We actually visited 3
parks in one day and only rode the rides WE
WANTED TO RIDE. We love spending
time with our kids, but man, it was fun only doing what we wanted to do! We rode Rock N Roller Coaster at Hollywood
Studios about 8 times in a row (single rider line anyone?) and Expedition
Everest at Animal Kingdom about 10 times! I am lucky to be married to my best friend, and we had a blast acting like kids!
Not only did we enjoy the attractions at
the parks, we also relaxed by the pool, played in the arcade (was not going to
let that 100 arcade card go to waste), sang along to Disney songs, played
Disney trivia, ate breakfast at Be Our Guest (and actually opened the
restaurant), and enjoyed one of the happiest places in the world with the love
of my life.
That is what Disney does. They help create lasting memories, and it doesn’t always have to be with kids. So, if you have kids, you never had kids, your kids are grown, there IS magic to magic to be found at Disney World without kids!
